Artistic and literary inspiration

The Renaissance was a quest for balance, proportion and harmony.

In painting, light became a structural element, whilst colour took on the quality of a precious material. Ultramarine blue, derived from lapis lazuli, was one of the rarest pigments and was used to lend depth and a sense of the sacred to images.
